A Zapcat is an inflatable powerboat built for high speed fun and excitement. The twin hull 'catamaran' design gives the boat that is stable when at rest but highly manoeuvrable and safe in both still and choppy waters. With the 50 horse power engine fitted it's power to weight ratio rivals a Ferrari sports car. The picture above shows a Zapcat jumping the wake our large RIB boat with he two man crew balancing the boat. This is exactly the sort of thing the Zapcat was designed to do - fast and furious but manoeuvrable and safe.
Zapcats originate from South Africa where since the early 80’s local crews have raced inflatable boats down treacherous rivers and along rugged coastlines. Developed from life saving surf rescue craft for racing and leisure, Zapcats are designed to cope with a huge variety of sea conditions from flat calm lakes to large breaking surf. Since the early days Zapcat racing, inflatable boat technology and design has come along way, finally evolving into the highly capable, versatile and robust Zapcat. The boats are inflatable catamarans with 50hp engines that reach up to 50mph on the water.
Since its explosive entry into the UK sports market in 2001, Zapcat Racing has seen rapid growth within the sport and has become the world’s largest one-design powerboat series as well as becoming a highly popular leisure craft. The versatility of these feisty little powerboats is one of the many reasons for their success within the UK and European water sports scene. One design Zapcat Racing offers close, affordable and fair competition. They are great fun and certainly qualify as an adrenaline sport.
Whether you open the throttle and skim over the flat sea or wave jump on a choppy day a Zapcat experience is guaranteed to get your pulse racing.
